Review #1,619: Pockets Filled Records "Playing The Game"

Reviewed on 2.01.2017 (Review #1,619)

Up early before work… Lemme get into this: Pockets Filled Records Playing The Game, released in 1997, produced by Da Jaz & The Beatologist Booney & features Sweetie, Tantrum, A-Roton, Kage & Goldielox. Start Time: 2:29 AM | End Time: 2:52 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Krescent City”
Wit a “K”! >>> Beat ain’t too bad, here; a lil’ plain… Tha hook sounds nice fa tha “Krescent City”… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice wit tha regular-soundin’ rhymes… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and tha not-badness continues… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it ain’t bad, as well… “Marijuana get rolled;” already! Even has on “camouflage drawers;” crazy! My Rating: 4.0

02. “Playing The Game”
>>> Anotha plain beat…; likin’ tha female voice on tha hook, here, soundin’ like Ms. Tee… Sweetie comin’ through wit tha 1st verse, doin’ her thang in a decent way… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s not bad; plain-soundin’ delivery, here, as it’s nothin’ special…  And, tha 3rd verse decent, as well… My Rating: 3.6

03. Introlude
>>> I like how this sounds like some chillout/ambient music; great scratchin’! Nice lil’ beat to chill out to! Too bad I can’t think of nappin’, at this point ‘cause I have work at 4:00/be there for 3:30! My Rating: N/A

½time: Sounds like a nice lil’ CD, so far; decent/not bad… So far, this CD’s valued at a 3.8 fa me!

04. “Connect The Dots”
>>> Quiet lil’ plain beat, here; not bad… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice… Rhymes are good, even tho this just decent, overall… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ okay and I’m likin’ how they mention, “Too many rappers on tha line.” It’s like, look where we’re at 20 years later! Like, what has our world come to??? My Rating: 3.9

05. “Block Banger”
>>> Still comin’ through wit tha decent production, even tho this beat sounds tha most undaground/best outta tha five productions, so far… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and I’m diggin’ this gangsta-soundin’ track; dope shit! Anotha dude, here, on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit consistent rhymes! Keep ‘em spittin’! Tha 3rd verse keepin’ it real, “Like a Russian roulette!” My Rating: 4.2

06. “Action Speaks (Louder Than Words)”
>>> Anotha plain-soundin’ production but still nice… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and tha rappin’ good; decent lil’ track… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s soundin’ like a true, good lil’ message… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and this dude stayin’ motivated wit these rhymes; nice! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ good, as well… My Rating: 3.8

07. “Tormented”
>>> Endin’ it wit a catchy intro, here; consistent rappin’ ta kick it off!! Tha hook’s nice, tha beat’s pretty dope for an undaground/semi-plain beat & tha rhymes are on lock, here! Could be close to tha top-rated track on here? Good shit tha whole way, here! That final verse pretty consistent, tho! My Rating: 4.1

Overall: Dug tha undaground production, even tho most of tha beats sounded a lil’ plain, with not much goin’ on… Tha rappin’ was good, but tha tracks ain’t spark me like crazy… Either way, nice lil’ compilation!
