Review #1,728: S.M.O.K.E. "Serious Minds On Kollectin' Ends"

Reviewed on 6.14.2017 (Review #1,728)

Looks like tha terror for tha next work day’s what’s gettin’ me up to review, smh… Just like tha last CD review, here I am… Here it goes: My review for S.M.O.K.E. Serious Minds On Kollectin’ Ends, released in 1998 on Awrab Records! Start Time: 1:41 AM | End Time: 2:33 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Intro/Serious Minds”
>>> Sounds good, here; can’t complain… I’m diggin’ tha dark-soundin’ beat fa tha undaground, here… Tha hook sounds nice and smooth; I can dig it… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ good, too, with tha “cold” and “hot” times… My Rating: 3.7

02. “Definition Of A Soulja”
>>> Slightly more upbeat than tha previous track, here; sounds nice… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice wit tha whisperin’… Almost sounds like a nice lil’ P vibe when it says tha title part; dope shit! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s nice ta hear, here… Keepin’ it movin’ with tha chick from S.M.O.K.E. on tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ like a nice, undaground feelin’… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ nice, here; good shit… And, tha 4th verse, here, havin’ a lil’ bit of a lyrical approach, this time; good shit, as well… And, switchin’ up to one of tha dudes on tha 4th verse, tryna make it with “$5.25 an hour;” good shit. My Rating: 3.9

03. “Worldwide” feat. 5th Will
>>> Anotha nice lil’ track, here; feelin’ this consistent, undaground production… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like a dope, consistent, lyrical approach on tha world of ’98; nice… Hearin’ tha hook and tha voice iz a lil’ ehh (random?); decent, tho… Keepin’ it movin’ with tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ nice, too… A lot shorter than tha 1st verse but still, nice lil’ appearance… Tha chick’s on tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ consistent wit her rhymes, here… I’m diggin’ that she rappin’ ‘bout “shmoke,” too; gotta luv it! And, one of tha dudes hoppin’ onto tha 3rd verse, too, soundin’ nice… My Rating: 3.8

04. “Flawless” feat. 5th Will
>>> Anotha dope, undaground beat; good shit! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and y’all holdin’ it down, once again; can’t complain… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s not bad; I can dig it… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s decent, too… My Rating: 3.7

05. “Somethin’ Playas Won’t Do” feat. Donnie & Lawanda
>>> A slower-soundin’ undaground beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ chill fa tha hood, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds like a guilty pleasure with this type of chick’s voice… Either way, it sounds nice fa this southern quality… And, tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ decent, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ a lil’ calm but decent, as well… My Rating: 3.5

06. Click
>>> Sounds like a weirdo or somethin’ in tha beginning? Like, one of them white boyz that be geeky? Gotta have “three muthafuckin’ feet,” ya dig?! My Rating: N/A

½time: Sounds mainly decent, so far, even tho I’m diggin’ these smooth, undaground beats fa tha Boot, here… Go figure, a 3.7-rated CD and that’s tha person I’m bein’ thrown off by’s birthday, smh!

07. “Down South 4-Life”
Likin’ how tha “4-Life”’s hyphenated… >>> Sounds like a good 1st verse, here; can’t say much… Hearin’ tha hook and it has a G-Funk sound; gotta agree! “Down south 4-life!” And, we got tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ nice, too… Keepin’ it movin’ with tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice ta hear, as well… I know I’m not sayin’ much throughout this review. It’s just, most of these tracks have similar vibes ta me, so I don’t know what ta say, sometimes… My Rating: 3.8

08. “Smoke 1 For Me”
>>> Anotha shmooth track… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds nice wit these “cellmates;” good shit… Hearin’ tha hook from tha chick and I’m diggin’ her emotion, even tho it sounds a lil’ like a guilty pleasure, just like that otha hook… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha chick on tha 2nd verse, here, spittin’ some nice rhymes… I’ono why, but this track seems quieter than tha previous tracks? Just sayin’… And, we got tha 3rd verse, here, which sounds decent… Seems like it’s draggin’ fa 5:36, which iz good, but mainly good this morning, since I don’t wanna go to work, yet!! We have a long outro, here, as tha hook replays in tha background… My Rating: 3.6

09. The Beginning
>>> Nice on how y’all name, “S.M.O.K.E.,” came about, includin’ what it stands for: “Serious Minds On Kollectin’ Ends;” nice! My Rating: N/A

10. “Foe Sho” feat. Donnie & Lawanda
>>> Anotha nice beat fa tha undaground, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice, here… Hearin’ this guilty pleasure-soundin’ hook and it’s aight; can’t complain too much… Keepin’ it movin’ with tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ like an okay verse, too… And, chickin’ it up on tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ aight; nothin’ too special… Sounds like a long hook/outro, here… My Rating: 3.4

11. “Here We Come” feat. 5th Will
>>> A decent beat, here; will I be able ta handle 5:56? Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s not bad, so far, strictly holdin’ it down fa tha hood… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice; a lil’ repetitive, but betta than some hooks on here… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s a better-soundin’ southern vibe, here… We got tha chick on tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like an okay verse… Can’t really say too much about it; just gonna vibe to it… Here’s tha 4th verse, soundin’ pretty, here… Overall, not too bad, as well… My Rating: 3.6

12. Outro/Success
>>> Nice lil’ outro wit tha echoes… My Rating: N/A

Overall: I thought I’d like this CD betta… It turned out ta be decent but all tha beats were nice ta hear fa tha undaground of tha 5-0-4…
